Photographers Rachael Silverstein and Savitri Balram created TELL ME TO MY FACE in response to feeling heartbroken, devastated, betrayed, scared, and inconsolable that America elected a President and Vice President who embody hatred, fear, and bigotry. We invited people of all races, religions, ethnicities, genders, and sexual orientations to come together and have their portraits taken with others in show of solidarity and in shared grief on November 20th in Wagner Park, NYC, overlooking the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Blank signs and markers were provided and all were encouraged to write a word or phrase expressing how they felt. The project's intention was to bring comfort in supporting one another and in knowing our grief, fear, and sadness is shared.
The title "Tell Me to My Face" is taken from Rachael's need to shout "Tell Me To My Face That I Don't Matter" in response to waking up on November 9th.
